About VSec

VSec is a Danish non-profit InfoSec community working to unify the different local infosec groups in Denmark by providing a shared communication platform.

VSec is a community by the community, for the community.

We are a community of professionals, students, and enthusiasts who share a passion for information security. Through meetups, CTF competitions, and open projects we create space for learning and networking across experience levels and backgrounds.

All local community crew members have the possibility to be part of the community board channel and directly influence how the community is run — including the code of conduct, guidelines, rules, and events. Each sub-community manages its own channels on the server.

Our values

Openness

Knowledge should be shared freely. We are open about methods, mistakes, and learning.

Community

We lift each other up. All experience levels are welcome.

Ethics

We act responsibly and respect our code of conduct.

Code of Conduct

VSec is an inclusive community. This code of conduct applies to all platforms and events associated with VSec.

Our pledge

We pledge to make our community welcoming, safe, and equitable for all.

We are committed to fostering an environment that respects and promotes the dignity, rights, and contributions of all individuals, regardless of characteristics including race, ethnicity, caste, color, age, physical characteristics, neurodiversity, disability, sex or gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, language, philosophy or religion, national or social origin, socio-economic position, level of education, or other status. The same privileges of participation are extended to everyone who participates in good faith and in accordance with this Covenant.

Encouraged behaviors

While acknowledging differences in social norms, we all strive to meet our community's expectations for positive behavior. We agree to behave mindfully toward each other and act in ways that center our shared values, including:

  • + Respecting the purpose of our community, our activities, and our ways of gathering.
  • + Engaging kindly and honestly with others.
  • + Respecting different viewpoints and experiences.
  • + Taking responsibility for our actions and contributions.
  • + Gracefully giving and accepting constructive feedback.
  • + Committing to repairing harm when it occurs.
  • + Behaving in other ways that promote and sustain the well-being of our community.

Restricted behaviors

We agree to restrict the following behaviors in our community. Instances, threats, and promotion of these behaviors are violations of this Code of Conduct.

  • Harassment. Violating explicitly expressed boundaries or engaging in unnecessary personal attention after any clear request to stop.
  • Character attacks. Making insulting, demeaning, or pejorative comments directed at a community member or group of people.
  • Stereotyping or discrimination. Characterizing anyone's personality or behavior on the basis of immutable identities or traits.
  • Sexualization. Behaving in a way that would generally be considered inappropriately intimate in the context or purpose of the community.
  • Violating confidentiality. Sharing or acting on someone's personal or private information without their permission.
  • Endangerment. Causing, encouraging, or threatening violence or other harm toward any person or group.
  • Behaving in other ways that threaten the well-being of our community.

Other restrictions

  • Misleading identity. Impersonating someone else for any reason, or pretending to be someone else to evade enforcement actions.
  • Failing to credit sources. Not properly crediting the sources of content you contribute.
  • Promotional materials. Sharing marketing or other commercial content in a way that is outside the norms of the community.
  • Irresponsible communication. Failing to responsibly present content which includes, links or describes any other restricted behaviors.

Reporting an issue

Not every conflict represents a code of conduct violation. When an incident does occur, it is important to report it promptly. To report a possible violation, reach out to the community moderators via Discord. All reports will be reviewed and investigated promptly, with moderators keeping actions as transparent as possible while prioritizing safety and confidentiality.

Addressing and repairing harm

If a violation is found, the following enforcement ladder may be used to determine how best to repair harm, based on severity and impact. Lower rungs may be skipped depending on the situation.

01

Warning

A private, written warning from the moderators for a single incident or series of incidents.

02

Temporarily limited activities

A time-limited cooldown period for a repeated violation or first incidence of a more serious violation.

03

Temporary suspension

A suspension with conditions for return, for a pattern of repeated violations or a single serious violation.

04

Permanent ban

Removal from all community spaces for patterns of violation that other steps have failed to resolve, or a violation of extreme severity.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces, and also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public or other spaces — such as using an official email address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event.

This code of conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant v3.0 , stewarded by the Organization for Ethical Source and licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 .

Sustainability

VSec is committed to operating with a minimal footprint — technically, economically, and environmentally. We deliberately choose tools and providers that align with our values around responsible, sustainable operation.

Minimal footprint

We keep our infrastructure lean. No unnecessary services, no bloated stacks. Every tool we run has a clear purpose and is actively used.

Green technology

We prefer providers with a documented commitment to renewable energy and carbon neutrality. Cloudflare operates one of the most energy-efficient global networks, and GitHub's parent company Microsoft has pledged to be carbon negative by 2030.

UN 2030 Agenda

VSec is committed to supporting the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Global Goals. Any unused community funds are directed toward initiatives aligned with these goals.

Why our stack is a sustainable choice

By using static site generation with Astro, the site produces pre-rendered HTML with zero server-side compute at request time — dramatically reducing energy use compared to dynamic server-rendered sites. Cloudflare's edge network serves content from the node closest to each visitor, cutting unnecessary data travel across the internet. Their network runs on renewable energy and achieves industry-leading efficiency ratios. GitHub provides free hosting for open source projects, eliminating the need for dedicated servers entirely. Together, this stack lets VSec run a fast, resilient, global platform with near-zero ongoing infrastructure cost and a fraction of the environmental impact of a traditional hosting setup.

Infrastructure

VSec is built on open, developer-friendly tooling. Everything is open source and community-maintained.
